What is a magnetic survey?

A magnetic survey maps variations in Earth's magnetic field caused by differences in the magnetic properties of rocks. The method is fast, non-invasive, and effective for mapping geological structures, faults, intrusions, and magnetic minerals such as iron ore — making it an important mineral-exploration tool.

Ground vs drone (UAV) magnetometers

Ground magnetometers (such as the Geometrics G-857/G-823A series) are carried by a surveyor in the field — accurate and economical for accessible areas. Drone (UAV) magnetometers such as the MagArrow carry the sensor beneath a drone, enabling fast, safe surveys of large areas or difficult terrain (swamp, forest, steep slopes).

Drone magnetic surveys are far faster, reach hazardous areas without risk to surveyors, produce dense and consistent data, and minimize magnetic interference from the operator. This is ideal for large-scale mineral exploration and regional mapping.
